So I went to the DMV on Friday to change my registration over to Washington finally. I know this seems a bit late, what with me being up here for a year already, but its a long story, of which you will get the short version.
Basicly, last year when i went in to take care of it, they wanted to charge me a stupid amount of money to transfer title from my mom to me due to sales tax. Well, in CA, its FREE between family members. So the lady I talked to told me to just get it transfered down there and all will be good. So we did. We also had to renew the registration because it was that time of year. Hence why I didn't do it up here.
So January rolls around and I go to apply for residency at the college. Because everything else BUT the car registration is WA, they denied me residency. So stupid. Anyways, went ahead and drove to the DMV in Bellevue on Friday to take care of it. The lady told me I needed to low and behold, pay sales tax on the transfer of title. Apparently, since my CA registration had the WA and CA address on it, she couldn't prove I owned it in CA. So after this loooong ordeal, I went online and found quotes on KBB and a couple other sites that said my car was worth far less than they said and what not.
I was so frustrated with the whole thing i was literally in tears when I got home.
Today, I went and got my car smog checked and then headed over to the Kirkland DMV with the Blue book values in hand to deal with this once and for all. The lady in Kirkland was sooo helpful. She said she didn't know what the lady in Bellevue was on, but she was wrong for telling me I was going to need to pay X amount in sales tax. If fact, I didn't have to pay a cent. I got in and out of the DMV in under 5 minutes, new plates in hand and spent under $90 and didn't have to pay anything extra.
Now, I seriously want to go back to crossroads and be all, "in your face bitch" or something, though I obviously wont.
Bellevue = Fail, but Kirkland is made of Win.
